My Issue with GoldenEye 007

If there’s one thing I hate about the video game industry, it’s when a billion-dollar company decides that they haven’t quite made enough money this quarter and pump out a “new and improved” version of either a classic game or one that has done particularly well over the past while (see: game of the year editions). For me, GoldenEye 007 is the straw that breaks the back of a VERY weighed-down camel. Let me elaborate:

GoldenEye for Nintendo 64 was produced following the release of a fairly sub-par Bond film of the same name (right, Nathan?), and was the sleeper hit of the century for the system. The game quickly developed a strong following among youth who enjoyed running around as Oddjob and planting proximity mines everywhere. However, Daniel Craig was NOT Bond, there was no such thing as a “Nunchuck” controller, and a Pussycat Doll didn’t perform the theme song! If Nintendo had simply released this as a downloadable for $10-15 and allowed all of us to enjoy the game we loved again, I would keep my mouth shut, but they didn’t. Enjoy not getting any of my money until Pokémon Black.
